Homeowners are asking AI to pick their remodeler. Here's what that means for you.

For years the game was simple: show up in the top three on Google Maps and the calls come in. That still matters. But a growing share of homeowners now skip the map and ask an AI tool directly, something like "Who's a good bathroom remodeler near me who does walk-in showers?"

BrightLocal's 2026 Local Consumer Review Survey found that 45% of US consumers have used AI tools to get local business recommendations, up from 6% in 2025 (source).

The difference: one answer, a few names

Google gives a page of options. An AI tool gives a short answer that usually names a handful of companies. If you're one of them, you're on a shortlist before the homeowner ever visits a website. If you're not, you don't get a chance to compete.

Those visitors tend to be ready to act

In one published case study, Seer Interactive found that visitors arriving from ChatGPT converted at 15.9%, compared with 1.76% from Google organic search (source). That's one site, not a law of nature. Still, it fits what you'd expect: someone who asked for a recommendation and got your name is further along than someone browsing.

What to do first

  1. Find out where you stand. Ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity the questions your customers would ask, using your city's name. Write down who gets named.
  2. Fix your Google Business Profile. Use the right primary category, list every service and keep it complete. It's one of the most-read sources about local businesses.
  3. Make your details consistent everywhere. Use the same name, phone and address on every directory and review site.
  4. Give AI something specific to quote. Build a page for each service you want to be known for, in plain language.

Or let us run the test for you. It's free.
